CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The trial date is set for the former Clarksville police officer charged with 11 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. In March 2022, a minor reported to the Butler County Sheriff’s Office, that a former Clarksville police officer, 34-year-old Mike Tobin, showed the minor sexually explicit images and videos. The Iowa Department of Public Safety said those images and videos, which included nude images of minors, were evidence in a pending criminal case. Tobin was relieved of his duties as an officer on March 5, 2022. He has entered a plea of not guilty. His trial is set for December 6, 2022.
CLIVE, Iowa (KWQC) – It may not be the biggest jackpot prize, but it’s still a lot of money for Steve Allen of Davenport. He bought a lottery ticket at the spur-of-the-moment Saturday and wound up winning $25,000 a year for life, according to the Iowa lottery office. The 59-year-old retired U.S. Navy veteran said he was helping a friend with a remodeling project in Buffalo, Iowa when he ran to the Express Lane Gas and Food Mart to get a bag of ice. He decided to spend the change on a ticket for the Lucky for Life game. He checked the drawing results and realized he matched the first five numbers, to win the game’s second place prize of $25,000 a year for life. Lucky for Life is a $2 game with drawings each night. The minimum guaranteed payout level is 20 years, and there is a lump-sum option. Allen chose to receive his winnings in the lump-sum amount of $390,000. He said he planned to pay off his mortgage and his car, then invest the rest of his winnings for retirement.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (KCRG) – Sunday at approximately 1:59 am, Iowa City Police responded to the 200 block of Van Buren St. for a report of shots fired in an alleyway. Responders arrived on scene and located an adult male suffering from at least one gunshot wound. Officers rendered medical aid until the victim was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment. The victim died at the hospital as a result of their gunshot wounds. Police have now identified the victim as 36-year-old Waymond Thomas. This is an active investigation.
INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (KCRG) – On October 23, 2022, Independence Police responded to the Buchanan County Health Center for a report of an assault. The victim was reportedly physically struck, restrained from leaving the area, and assaulted with a firearm. Following an investigation, police identified and arrested 27-year-old Nethaniah Lindsey Gordon. A search warrant was executed at a residence in the 600 block of 1st Street West. During the execution of the search warrant, a Glock handgun, marijuana, and drug paraphernalia were seized from the residence. Gordon was arrested and charged with:
- Domestic Assault Strangulation/Bodily Injury
- Felon In Control of a Firearm
- Intimidation with a Dangerous Weapon
- Harassment – 1st Degree
- Possession of Controlled Substance – Marijuana 3rd Offense
- Domestic Abuse Assault – 2nd Offense
- False Imprisonment
- Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
