WATERLOO – One person was killed in a shooting on Saturday, according to law enforcement officials. At around 12:07 p.m., the Waterloo Police Department was sent to a report of a shooting in an apartment at 226 Palmer Drive. Officials located Cortavius Benford, 26, who had been shot one time at the scene. He later died from his injuries at a nearby hospital. After an investigation, police arrested Savion Wilson, 23, and charged him with first-degree murder. Wilson is being held at the Black Hawk County Jail on a $1 million bond.
ACKLEY, Iowa (AP)—A northern Iowa farmer spent a night trapped in a grain bin before crews rescued him. The farmer became trapped Thursday afternoon by grain in the bin on his farm in the Ackley-Iowa Falls area. He survived overnight and was found by a neighbor, who called 911 a little after 11 a.m. Friday. Crews from several agencies responded and used shields to prevent more grain from engulfing the farmer. They also cut holes in the bin to relieve pressure and rescued him after about an hour. Hardin County Sheriff Dave McDaniel says the farmer, whose name was not released, was conscious and alert when he was taken to an Iowa Falls hospital.
CHESTER, Iowa—Howard County Sheriff’s officials say they responded to a 911 call on River Road near Chester Friday. When deputies arrived, they discovered a body inside the rural home. The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is assisting with the investigation. Authorities have not said if they suspect foul play.
DUBUQUE–A man was injured in a shooting in Dubuque Sunday morning. It happened just before 5:30 a.m. in the 1800 block of Central Ave. Police said there was evidence of shots fired at the scene when officers arrived. Dubuque police confirmed one person was hurt, but they didn’t know the extent of his injuries. The man was taken to UnityPoint Health-Finley Hospital in Dubuque for initial treatment, then air-lifted to University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in Iowa City. No arrests have been made.
