POMEROY, Iowa (KTIV/KCRG) – Suspects have been taken into custody after several law enforcement agencies were sent to a small Northwest Iowa community for a shooting Tuesday morning. A shooting took place in the Calhoun County town of Pomeroy, according to an official with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation. Officials say two people are in custody for the shooting, which happened on Cayuga Street, which runs through the middle of Pomeroy, a town of just over 500 people located several miles north of Rockwell City. The two in custody were found in Manson, a town of about 1,700 just east of Pomeroy. They were taken into custody from a home at 1900 Main Street in Manson, and their identities are unknown. The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office believes the shooting started as a fight inside a Pomeroy apartment that escalated into “an exchange of gunfire involving multiple individuals.” Two of the people involved in the incident were taken to a hospital for gunshot wounds. Their current conditions are unknown as of Tuesday afternoon. The sheriff’s office says every person involved in the shooting has been identified and accounted for. This incident caused a lockdown at a school in Manson because students were there for athletic practice. The school was not in session.

AMES, Iowa (KCRG) – Around a dozen members of the Iowa State University Cyclone Marching Band had minor injuries after the bus taking them back to Ames from the Pop-Tarts Bowl game in Florida over the weekend was involved in a crash. It happened at around 7 p.m. on Monday, when the Windstar Lines motorcoach carrying the band members collided with a school bus near Chattanooga, Tennessee. The President of Windstar Lines told TV9 a privately owned school bus pulled out in front of the motorcoach carrying the band members. The privately owned school bus then left the scene. The Windstar Lines motorcoach did remain upright, but was disabled because of the damage sustained in the crash. First responders evaluated the band members, but there were no serious injuries. The university said about 12 students had bumps, bruises and cuts, but no one had to go to the hospital. The motorcoach was part of an eight-bus convoy, and there was enough space on the other motorcoaches available to accommodate the students from the damaged bus. Windstar Lines said it is conducting its own internal investigation of the crash, and is cooperating with local authorities. The driver of the motorcoach was not charged for the crash.
