Rally in Iowa
We here in Iowa are used to big political rallies in early October.
Well, of election years, that is. This is not a state or federal election year, although in many areas, those municipal and school board elections are heating up quite nicely.
So when it was confirmed yesterday that former President Donald Trump would hold a “Save America” rally in Des Moines on Saturday night, October 9th…no one around here was surprised, since Trump teased that news on the Todd Starnes Show on KXEL about 10 days ago. And he’s had huge crowds this summer and early fall, most recently in Alabama.
But put this into context…at these rallies, Trump is encouraging support for Republicans in 2022, yes…but if he’s laying the groundwork for another run for the Oval Office, the rally will be 37 months before the next election…and only 11 months since the last one.
There is no better messenger for the GOP right now than Trump, which has caused some friction at the Republican National Committee, confirmed when folks from there have been with me on KXEL. No one else can command the attention or the crowds. If he runs, and he drops strong hints at every turn he will, there will be no credible opposition. And even now, he’s basically frozen the field, although we’re still getting visits from potential candidates who want to be in good position should he do an about-face and not run in 2024.
So Mr. President, welcome back to Iowa. And you’re welcome to come back on KXEL any time. It worked for you in 2016, after all.
