The father of a man charged with attempted murder has pleaded guilty to helping his son escape the country. Alfred Younes faces up to 5 years in prison and a $10,000 fine for helping Ali Younes flee to Jordan. Ali was on house arrest for attempted murder charges. That’s when his parents helped him board a flight out of the country. Alfred was also arrested trying to board a flight from Omaha to Jordan.
13 puppy breeders and dealers in Iowa made the “Horrible Hundred” list put together by the Humane Society of the United States. It documents 100 problematic puppy breeders and dealers in the country. U.S. Representative Zach Nunn is introducing two bills as part of the farm bill–Goldie’s Act and the Puppy Protection Act. The state director for the humane society says the bills would make good progress in the conditions in these facilities and would allow better enforcement of those regulations.
Iowa’s Attorney General says the biggest consumer complaint she’s receiving involves robocalls and scam calls. The Federal Communications Commission says U.S. consumers get nearly 4 billion unwanted robocalls every month. In May, Iowa filed a lawsuit against one company linked to billions of illegal robocalls in the U.S. Bird reminds Iowans to never send money whether it be cash, cryptocurrency, gift cards, or bank transfers. She says those are all big red flags
Avelo Airlines announced that it is now offering a non-stop flight from Dubuque to Las Vegas. The airline held a ribbon cutting at the Dubuque Regional Airport as the first flight took off. It will now be available on Wednesdays and Saturdays. There is already a flight to Orlando also available on those days.
The state fire marshal has lifted a burn ban in Delaware County. This means open burning is allowed once again in the county. There are 17 counties in Iowa still under burn bans. Most of those are in northeast Iowa. They include Buchanan, Black Hawk and Bremer Counties.
