Dubuque is opening an in-person option today for people applying for the city’s “Housing Choice Voucher Program”, also known as “Section Eight.” City officials say they weren’t getting to everyone they wanted when they were just opening applications online, so they’re hoping hosting an in person application will get better outreach, especially for those who don’t have internet access. The city says it’s expecting anywhere from 150 to 300 people to arrive this morning starting at 7 at the Multicultural Family Center in downtown Dubuque. It runs until 6 at night. The voucher wait list could help people with assistance in paying rent and utilities. It’s open to people with very low income.

Today is election day in some school districts which want voters to approve funding issues. Waterloo and Central City schools both have what are called PPEL votes. It’s a renewal vote of the district’s Physical Plant and Equipment levy, money that can be used for purchases, construction costs, and debt retirement. Tiffin voters can also go to the polls to decide if the city should add a one percent sales tax for various services, with half of it to be used to pay down debt. Polls are open until 8 tonight.
