CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Wednesday night, Linn County officials set the stage for changes to large-scale solar projects in the county. The Planning and Zoning Commission voted to recommend changes to the ordinance governing solar projects. The decision now heads to the Board of Supervisors. The changes take up more than twenty pages and include things like how far solar panels have to be from homes, details on where “vegetative screening” is required, the level of noise equipment can make, and much, much more. The changes to the ordinance come after the approval process for Duane Arnold I and II in Palo unfolded last year. The project moved forward, but only after controversy, pushback, and many vocal worries about the project.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A southwest Iowa high school teacher and football coach is facing dozens of sexual abuse charges. Ryan Kissell of Creston was arrested Wednesday by Creston police. He’s charged with 46 counts of sexual abuse, including 24 counts of various lascivious acts with a child and 21 counts of second-degree sexual abuse. According to a criminal complaint, an underage victim reported that Kissell sexually assaulted them multiple times since 2013.
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KCRG) – Davenport Police testified Wednesday in the Henry Dinkins murder trial about his whereabouts the morning ten-year-old Breasia Terrell was reported missing. Davenport police detectives said they had reviewed security camera footage of a Walmart from the day Breasia Terrell disappeared. That footage shows Dinkins walking in and buying two bottles of bleach. Details his son testified to on Monday… that child also testified he saw his dad kill his sister. July 10th, 2020 is the day that investigators focused on today, the morning Breasia was reported missing. That morning, Dinkins appeared on multiple security cameras’ footage in Clinton. Officers testified that the video shows Dinkins with bleach in his cart at a Walmart parking lot. Those officers say Dinkins was not alone. There was another person in the passenger seat of his Impala – but they couldn’t identify that individual.
CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The “Deep-Fried Bacon Brisket Mac-n-Cheese Grilled Cheese from food trailer “What’s Your Cheez” has won the 2023 ‘People’s Choice Best New Food’ contest. There were 8,254 total votes for the ‘People’s Choice Best New Food. The Deep-Fried Bacon Brisket Mac-n-Cheese Grilled Cheese received 47.2% of the votes. The three finalists included:
- The Bacon Box’s “Grinder ball” – bacon balls stuffed with mozzarella cheese, wrapped in bacon, rotisserie smoked, and dipped in warm marinara sauce. It’s a gluten-free take on the traditional state fair grinder.
- Watcha Smokin’ BBQ & Brew’s “Iowa Twinkie” – a bacon-wrapped jalapeño stuffed with pulled pork, sweet corn, cream cheese, and ranch seasoning. Glazed with a sweet and sticky barbeque sauce, drizzled in ranch.
- What’s Your Cheez’s “Deep-Fried Bacon Brisket Mac-n-Cheese Grilled Cheese” – From The Rib Shack’s sister food trailer called “What’s Your Cheez” – A bacon brisket mac and cheese, slathered between layers of American cheese and two slices of bacon cheddar bread. It’s then deep-fried and served with signature raspberry chipotle barbeque sauce.
All three dishes, as well as the more than 60 other new foods at the Fair, will remain available throughout the Fair at their respective locations.
