The Year Was 1960–John Kennedy was elected president, U.S. pilot Francis Gary Powers was put on trial by the Soviet Union for spying, Nazi Adolph Eichmann was captured and put on trial in Israel, and Jack Paar walked off “The Tonight Show” after NBC censored a joke in his monologue…television shows premiering included “My Three Sons,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” “The Flintstones” and “Davey and Goliath”…popular movies included “Psycho” and “Spartacus”…and on the music charts, Iowa’s own Everly Brothers scored with “Cathy’s Clown,” Brenda Lee had a hit with “I’m Sorry,” “Everybody’s Somebody’s Food” was sung by Connie Francis, Bryan Hyland sang of the “Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” and Chubby Checker’s “The Twist” became a national dance sensation.
