CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A 23 year old man is dead after a shooting early Sunday morning in Cedar Rapids. Cedar Rapids police say they were called to the 1300 block of 1st Ave SE shortly after midnight for the report of shots fired and a victim needing medical attention. Officers arrived on the scene and found the victim outside the address suffering from gunshot wounds. Officials say he was given immediate medical attention and transported to a local hospital where he was later declared dead. Police say this appears to be a targeted incident, and are asking anyone with information to call the Cedar Rapids Police Department at 319-286-5491 and speak with investigators. There is an active, ongoing investigation.
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) – Davenport city officials have announced that the dismantling process of the partially collapsed apartment building “The Davenport” will begin on Monday, June 12th. According to a release, over the past week, officials have been engaged with structural engineers, regulatory authorities and contracting company that have advised when best and how to fully dismantle the partially collapsed building at 324 Main Street. They say the planning process has considered asbestos removal and the impact on neighboring properties. Other preparations included inspections of nearby structures to determine their vulnerability, which resulted in the vacation of the remaining occupied apartments at 400 and 410 North Main Street. Once the dismantling work is complete, crews will then need to remove the debris and clear the site. Officials say the whole process is expected to take several weeks to complete.
BENTON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – One person is dead after a motorcycle accident in Benton County Saturday. Just after 2:00 p.m. a 2012 Ford Focus was slowly traveling west on 77th street while pulling a motorcycle and its driver. A 2015 Volkswagen Passat was also traveling west and was moving faster. The Volkswagen couldn’t stop before it hit the motorcycle, pushing it into the Ford. The driver of the motorcycle was ejected and the Ford spun 180 degrees until the vehicle was facing east on the north shoulder. The motorcycle stopped in the north ditch. The Volkswagen stopped on the north shoulder. The driver of the motorcycle was taken to St. Luke’s where he died of his injuries.
VINTON, Iowa (KCRG) -A Cedar Falls man is dead after being crushed between a dump truck and skid steer loader Friday at a construction site. Vinton police responded to the 1300 block of B Avenue just after 3:00 p.m. Saturday. Officials say 61-year-old Ronald Preece was a dump truck driver doing utility work on B Avenue, and that the operator of the skid steer loader did not see Preece, who was behind a dump truck, and backed into him. Preece was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries. The accident is under investigation.
