Manchester Fire Chief Mike Ryan has been placed on administrative leave. The city manager made the announcement Tuesday afternoon but is not saying why the action was taken, saying it is a “personnel matter”. The City says there’s no official paperwork for him resigning. Randy Rattanborg – the treasurer or the fire department is now acting chief.
Several people are now without a place to live after an apartment fire in Cedar Falls. Firefighters responded to the 2700 block of Bicentennial Drive around 11 Monday night. They found smoke in the hallways and flames on the third floor. The apartment complex is the home to many people with physical disabilities, and they needed help getting out. No injuries have been reported. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Two school leaders from eastern Iowa and one from Wisconsin are finalists to become the new Linn-Mar Superintendent. The district announced the finalists yesterday morning as Amy Kortemeyer, Nick Ouellette, and Chace Ramey. Both Kortemeyer and Ramey are currently deputy superintendents in the Iowa City Community School District. Oullette is the superintendent in the Hudson school district in northwest Wisconsin. Linn-Mar leaders have not set a date on when they’ll announce a final decision after those interviews. The new superintendent will begin July 1st.
Iowa lawmakers are moving forward with legislation that would lift some gun restrictions. A Senate committee approved a measure last week that would allow guns and ammunition in parking lots of schools, prisons, colleges and their workplaces. The measure has not been formally brought to the Senate floor for debate.
“March Madness” may be underway – but another tournament is also happening in Iowa. It’s called “Pulled Pork Madness”. The Iowa Pork Producers Association wants to know who has the top pulled pork sandwich in the state. It’s set up like the NCAA tournament, but instead of basketball, this bracket asks the public to vote for the restaurant with the best sandwich.
