You’re Still Out There

We have truly an infinite number of ways to get information these days. But a new survey shows that you’re still relying on radio.

AM and FM radio reached 89 percent of adults age 18 and above. Studies show the average adult now spends 7 hours and 40 minutes with radio each week. And that number is virtually identical whether the person terms themselves a heavy internet user, a light internet user, a heavy TV viewer or a light TV viewer…the average adult is with radio for well more than an hour a day.

And the new numbers show that despite the many different forms out there…folks are consuming more and more media…not cutting their usage of radio, for example, to account for time with a new media platform.

That suggests that this unique medium of radio, which has been around for literally a shade over 100 years, still holds a strong place in people’s lives. That’s especially true for folks who prefer “spoken word” radio…news, talk, something that is not music.

If you’re listening to this segment…whether on the AM radio, the FM radio, via a web stream, an app, or a smart speaker…we thank you. We know you’re there, and we hear from you often, which we’re always happy about…but sometimes it’s nice to see numbers, too.
