Top Ten State of the Union Lies

Last Tuesday, the President delivered his annual State of the Union message to a joint session of Congress. I’ve already told you I think the whole exercise, as currently constructed, is a huge waste of time.

But Brent Bozell of the Media Research Center did watch the speech, and came up with a “top ten” list of what he called the biggest lies spoken from the presidential podium. Here’s the first half.

First, Biden said his administration boasts the most jobs ever created under a president. Bozell’s fact check suggests that under Biden’s poor economy, more people are working two jobs. It was people going back to work after the lockdowns that caused the rise in jobs.

Second, the president said unemployment is at its lowest rate in 50 years. But as Bozell notes, the labor participation rate is near historic lows; he says the administration manipulated unemployment statistics by no longer tracking young, healthy men who gave up looking for work and removed themselves from the workforce.

Third, inflation is falling. The fact is that while the rate of inflation is slowing, it’s still five times what it was when Biden took over. Beyond that, the overall inflation statistics do not include everyday items like groceries and energy bills.

Fourth, the claim that the COVID vaccine saved millions of lives. The Media Research Center cites statistics showing that countries that did not force the vaccine on their citizens are doing just as well, if not better, than those that did.

Fifth, the assertion that it was the pandemic that caused a spike in crime. Facts show that Antifa and BLM radicals destroyed cities and police departments while Democratic mayors encouraged the activity, or at least did nothing to stop it. And the impetus was not the pandemic, it was in response to the death of George Floyd in the Twin Cities.

That’s the first half of the list…I’ll share the rest with you tomorrow.
