Finally, Something They Agree On

You’ve heard a lot about how the U.S. House is a deeply divided body, with so many factions that it’s hard to imagine them agreeing on anything.

But yesterday, it happened…a unanimous vote…419-0.

The issue? To pass a resolution condemning China for that spy balloon it sent from one end of our country to the other.

Certainly no issue here…some part of the U.S. government needed to stand up for the country and its citizens.

And it seems the anger in Congress goes farther than the Chinese government. Each chamber got a special closed door briefing yesterday from military officials, some of whom were also trotted out to testify before a subcommittee in public. And members, transcending party, were not pleased.

From Alaska to Montana to Hawaii…all sites where this balloon hovered, or a separate one crashed recently…members of Congress scolded the Administration for its lack of transparency, its lack of action, and its lack of leadership overall on the issue.

This won’t last, this spirit of unanimity…but it’s also not going to disappear altogether, because citizens are hot about this, and they’re letting their elected representatives know it.

The real test will be if any action is agreed upon. Embarrassment before a public hearing is one thing…denying funding to agencies that aren’t competent or forthcoming is another.

But mark it down…you probably won’t see many more 419-0 votes in this House this session.
