The Year Was 1965–Among the popular songs of the year were “Wooly Bully” by Sam the Sham and the Pharaohs, “Downtown” by Petula Clark, Roger Miller’s “King of the Road” and “This Diamond Ring” by Gary Lewis and the Playboys…in the news, President Lyndon Johnson took the oath of office for a full term, and riots broke out in the Watts area of Los Angeles…moviegoers saw “The Sound of Music” and “The Greatest Story Ever Told”…and new television shows premiering included situation comedies “Hogan’s Heroes,” “Get Smart,” “Green Acres,” “I Dream of Jeannie” and the game show “Hollywood Squares.”
