The Cedar Rapids School Board picked a former Nebraska school superintendent as its next district leader. After a months-long search, Doctor Tawana Grover was picked as the District’s new Superintendent. She has been superintendent at Grand Island schools for the past seven years. She left that position just days ago. Grover replaces Art Sathoff, who has been in the role as the interim since November after Superintendent Noreen Bush died from cancer.
Waterloo police are investigating a stabbing that killed a man. Police found the victim when they were called to the 500 block of Dawson street overnight yesterday for a report of vandalism. An ambulance took him to Allen Hospital, where he died. Relatives are still being notified of the man’s death.
Nine people are now charged following a riot in Johnson County, where investigators say the group tried to kill someone. 20-year-old ZaShawn Smith of Coralville and a 17-year-old are both charged with attempted murder. Deputies took them into custody Monday, four days after the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office says they were involved in an attempted assault in Coralville that led to a chase into Tiffin. Seven others face rioting charges, including another 17-year-old who’s charged with attempted murder.
Cedar Rapids police are looking for the person who shot a man Wednesday night. Police responded to a report of gunfire on Glass Road Northeast near Interstate 380. One man went to the hospital with a gunshot wound. He’s expected to recover.
The winner of a contest called “Race for the Space” in Cedar Rapids is officially open for business. Keto Kitchen held its grand opening in the Armstrong Building at the intersection of Third Avenue and Third Street in Cedar Rapids. Through the “Shark Tank-style” competition, the business won a grand prize of 20-thousand dollars, a 75-hundred dollar credit towards design services and an eight-week complimentary course to build a more valuable business. Keto Kitchen also has a location in Iowa City.
