Table for Two
For virtually my entire life, there’s been a pet in the house…sometimes, more than one. And I’m one of those who will take any measure, and spare no expense, to provide for pets in my care. So I am certainly not one to point at someone for “overdoing” it for their pets.
However, I might draw the line at this one.
Fancy Feast is an optimistically-named cat food brand. They apparently have a new product line called “Medleys” for the cat with discerning taste…including “Beef Ragu Recipe with Tomatoes and Pasta in a Savory Sauce”.
That’s over-the-top enough…but wait, there’s more.
On August 11 and 12, Fancy Feast will open a “pop up” restaurant in New York City…it’s limited to 16 guests, who get a free meal out of the deal. Purina notes that the menu will be designed by Fancy Feast’s in-house chef…yes, the cat food company has an in-house chef…and a well-known New York restauranteur.
The idea is to help humans understand how their cats experience food—from flavor to texture to form.
Well, and to get people talking about Fancy Feast, so we took the bait on that.
Last year, the company also released a cookbook with recipes cat lovers can make to pair with their cat’s food.
No, this is not a spoof…I checked. And if you already have plans and cannot make it to the limited New York restaurant, you can get the recipes on line later.
It occurs to me that if we want to stop the influx of illegal immigration at the southern border, maybe we should promote that in addition to pursuit of freedom and the American dream, we have restaurants to help us understand cat food. That might lead some to turn around.
