PARKERSBURG, Iowa (KCRG) – A collision between a train and a vehicle in Butler County resulted in the hospitalization of three people in the vehicle, according to state officials. At around 3:55 p.m. on Sunday, the Iowa State Patrol and other emergency responders were sent to a report of the crash along Second Street in Parkersburg, just north of its intersection with Railroad Street. Troopers believe that a 2016 Chevy Silverado was traveling northbound on Second Street and did not yield at the railroad crossing, resulting in the westbound Canadian National locomotive colliding into the pickup. The driver of the truck was taken to a nearby hospital via air ambulance. Two passengers in the truck, both young children, were also taken to the hospital via ground ambulance. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident, according to officials. The Butler County Sheriff’s Office, Iowa Department of Natural Resources, and Canadian National Railroad Police were involved in the emergency response. An investigation into the collision is ongoing.

CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – A young child suffered gunshot wounds in a Sunday afternoon incident, according to law enforcement officials. At around 12:19 p.m., the Coralville Police Department was sent to a report of a shooting at an apartment complex on Boston Way. Officers located the 3-year-old child who had been shot. INDEPENDENCE, Iowa (KCRG) – Law enforcement officials in Buchanan County have released more information about a collision that took place last Monday. At around 7:45 p.m. on June 27, the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Office was sent to a report of a crash in the 2600 block of Brandon Diagonal Boulevard, located south of Independence. Deputies believe, following an investigation, that a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix that was traveling southbound lost control, spinning sideways and colliding with a northbound 2021 Can-Am Defender all-terrain vehicle. Both vehicles ended up on the side of the road with significant damage, with the ATV on its side. Three people in the ATV were taken to Buchanan County Health Center in Independence via ambulance for treatment of unspecified injuries. The driver of the Grand Prix received what were described as minor injuries and was taken to the same hospital in a private vehicle. The Independence Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, and Jesup Ambulance assisted in the emergency response. An investigation into the crash is ongoing, according to officials.
