Show Me The Money
You probably heard the first political ads on KXEL earlier this week. Not surprising, since we are less than three weeks away from the June 7 primary election.
Nationally, mid-term election campaign ad spending has already passed the half-billion dollar mark…at $557 million…with five months to go until the general election. More than $100 million of that was spent on the U.S. Senate race in Pennsylvania alone.
Of the $557 million, a whopping $400 million was spent on Senate ads in Pennsylvania, Georgia, Arizona, Ohio and Nevada…just five states.
Republicans appear to be outspending Democrats in Pennsylvania and Ohio…but that’s not surprising because the more active primaries in those states were on the GOP side.
In Georgia, Arizona and Nevada, Democrats are spending more than Republicans…trying to hold on to seats and stake a claim while Republicans are figuring out who their candidate will be.
The two leading Democrats in Iowa’s U.S. Senate race are on TV…former Congresswoman Abby Finkenauer just got on the air this week, while Admiral Mike Franken has been on for a while, with his third different ad premiering yesterday, in advance of the Senate debate on public TV tonight.
If death and taxes are certain…then so is increasing political ad spending.
