Build Back…Better, or Broke?

Last Friday morning, the U.S. House passed the so-called “Build Back Better” human infrastructure bill, some two trillion dollars worth. It was a largely symbolic effort, since there’s no chance it will pass the Senate in current form, but it’s the next logical step in the legislative process.

But if a Trafalgar Poll taken in partnership with the Convention of States Action last week is any guide, it’s not as popular as Democrats would have you believe.

A majority of 1,000 likely 2022 voters surveyed, 52.4 percent, say the plan would be hurtful to America’s economic recovery…and fourth-fifths of those say it would be *very* hurtful.

As we’ve frequently suggested here, elections turn on independents…and they are solidly against the plan. A full 59.6 percent of independent likely voters next year think the human infrastructure bill will hurt the country’s economic recovery. Not even a third think it will help.

When you consider that only about 10 percent of those surveyed had no opinion, you can see that it’s not just a majority against…it’s a very small number that think it will help.

Democrats will say that’s just spin or narrative, and people will support the effort once they truly see money being spent. That may be, but they’re not neutral on the topic now…meaning it’s going to take even more persuasion to get them to chance their views. And with margins being so small in our elections these days, that’s not going to bode well for Democrats.
