We Know More Than You Do
There’s a growing trend that when some in power are questioned about facts on pending issues, they indignantly take a “trust us” attitude.
The President recently asserted that he was confident various infrastructure would pass. When asked why information he was relying on for that, he said simply, “me”.
The Press Secretary has more than once, to journalists pretty friendly of the Administration, dismissed specific questions about how infrastructure bills would be paid for by simply saying, “because it is”.
Now in the wake of buzz that the Congressional Budget Office…a non-partisan agency…was going to say that that same reconciliation effort would in fact cost money and would not be fully paid for…the Administration said publicly that the agency lacked the experience to properly account for legislation like this; very clearly calling the agency out, even before they weighed in. Wonder if the CBO says the bill is paid for, if all of a sudden they’ll have gotten the experience they needed.
We’re smart enough to understand complicated issues…and we’re smart enough to know when the justification for something is nothing more than “because I said so”. That works for parents of small children…but we’re not small children. They need to remember that.
