Back to Normal
I wore a suit this past Tuesday…probably for the first time since February…of 2020. Let me explain.
My typical attire here at the radio station is a shirt and tie and slacks or khakis…and depending on the day, a sport coat might be thrown in for good measure. When I’m doing events on the road, or remote broadcasts, then I usually put on a suit…a step up from a sport coat. Some may think that’s over the top for radio, but I’m comfortable with it and it helps put me in the proper mindset to do news/talk, or spoken word, radio. I also think it’s important to present a certain image when in public.
This past Tuesday, I went to Pella for the National Association of Manufacturers big “Creators Wanted” event…you’ll hear more about it on a future edition of the “Iowa Business Report” program. It was natural for me to put on a suit…but then I noticed that all my suits were in the closet of a spare bedroom, out of the way…because once COVID hit, we weren’t holding events, and going out in public.
That started to change this past spring, of course…but this was the first time I needed the “full suit treatment” since the pandemic. And I have to tell you, it actually felt really good to put on the business uniform…and to go to an event where people where dressed the same way. Sure, some had masks…and everyone had to get their temperature taken before entering the room…but it was another very welcome sign that the so-called new normal is actually close to the old normal…and that hiding in a corner in fear is not productive.
And I’ve already picked out the next occasion to bring out the suit…it’s on December 1st at the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum…more information on that, and an invitation to you, during KXEL Live & Local on Monday.
