The Sophisticated Class

The liberal elites who work for outlets such as the New York Times these days have a different view of the world than the rest of us. In one respect, it’s not their fault; they typically only know about life in big cities and have been schooled at institutions which instill, then reinforce, that mindsight.

So it’s not surprising…yet still telling…how the formerly-mainstream media has covered two events that took place over the weekend.

In one, the annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally kicked off in the Black Hills of South Dakota. The event was held last year, and you probably heard it was a major superspreader event for COVID…but that’s not supported by the facts. Even reporting done with the accurate facts still calls it unacceptable. Nearly a half million people attended last year, and the CDC says there were 649 cases including one death from those who attended. That’s something like a tenth of a percent of those attending. Yet those who type and talk into microphones for a living shake their heads at the irresponsibility of the attendees and look down upon them for daring to gather again this year, even though much of it is outdoors.

In the other, the lavish 60th birthday party for former President Obama, tucked inside massive tents at Martha’s Vineyard, supposedly scaled back from 700 to 500 attendees. All of whom were in close proximity, dancing and drinking and having a good time. The few photos we’ve seen show maskless people doing all this, inside closed structures. Sounds like there’s some risk there.

But when asked about it on CNN, a New York Times reporter pointed out that the Obama event was fine but the Sturgis event was not because, in her words, “they’re following all the safety precautions, this is going to be safe, this is a sophisticated, vaccinated crowd”.

That tells you all you really need to know. Obama and the rich folks are sophisticated, those who attend a motorcycle rally in a flyover state are unsophisticated.

No, that was not Obama saying that. But that’s the mindset of the big city folks, of the current ruling class. They know better than you do, because you’re not as smart and sophisticated as they are.

I know better, and you know better. And that’s the first step toward defeating their ideas.
