Getting Together—Smartly

A uniquely-Iowa tradition returns Sunday after a year off due to COVID…the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, or RAGBRAI. Co-founder John Karras has noted that if we’re correct, the acronym should be pronounced rag-bray, but that battle was lost long ago and we for whatever reason call it rag-bry.

Overnight stops in Iowa Falls Tuesday, Waterloo Wednesday, and Anamosa Thursday…great fun and fellowship to be had by all, especially with pent-up energy given the two-year break. And KXEL is proud to be the radio sponsor of the Waterloo overnight stop.

As always, though, the caution to not go crazy and to have responsible fun. That’s true every year, but especially so this year.

Regardless of vaccination status, apparently, COVID is still a threat. That doesn’t mean hole up in your basement and hide from life, or events like this…but be prudent and smart about it.

What that means specifically is different for each person. But I recall not long ago seeing so many folks in stores who acted unduly bravely once they put a mask on…as if the mask was going to fix everything. It doesn’t, nor does the shot. So continue to be smart and not take risks you shouldn’t.

And contrary to what the current federal government wants you to believe…they don’t know the correct answer. Frankly, only you do. So go out, whether on RAGBRAI or elsewhere, and have fun…while being smart.
