Party First
You’ve probably heard about efforts in California to recall that state’s Democrat governor, Gavin Newsom. They’ve done recalls there before; that’s how they got Gov. Arnold Schwazenegger…who, by the way, is the last Republican governor of the state.
So there’s going to be a vote…first, to determine if Newsom should be recalled…and if that is successful, the second part of the same ballot will elect his successor.
Here’s a wrinkle that in and of itself could be cause to toss him out of office. His people apparently didn’t complete the necessary paperwork to have his party affiliation—Democrat—listed. So as it stands, under current law there, he’ll just be listed by name. Others who did follow the rules will have a party designation listed by their names.
Newsom obviously benefits from people who just crawled out from under a rock who will vote to keep a Democrat, any Democrat, in a recall. So since his team biffed…he’s now suing the Secretary of State, demanding that “Democrat” be by his name, the clear letter of the law notwithstanding.
He claims in the lawsuit that time period for getting all the paperwork in order was too short…never mind that others figured out a way to do it. I guess he was too busy figuring out how to further shut down his state and cripple its economy.
What does that say, though, about how he feels about voter intelligence? Then again, he’s fooled them so far, so you can’t be surprised he’d try again.
