A judge has denied a former Dubuque Senior High School football coach’s appeal over his sentencing. He’s serving 10 years in prison for stealing more than $47,000 from a local football league. Darrell Moore, who previously served as president of the Dubuque Independent Football League, pleaded guilty to first-degree theft. His plea agreement recommended two years probation through a deferred judgment. But the judge rejected that deal. New court documents say a judge will not reconsider the sentencing, noting the number of times Moore stole money from minors’ accounts for his personal gain.
A new Cook Political Report is calling the Iowa race for the U.S. Senate seat a ‘toss up’. Republican Ashley Hinson and Democrat Josh Turek are both vying for Republican Joni Ernst’s seat; Ernst announced she was not running for re-election. A previous Cook Report said this race leaned Republican. Polls from various sources this summer have shown a close race, all within the margin of error. The Cook Report also says the race for Iowa’s Governor is leaning Democrat, with Rob Sand taking the lead over Republican Zach Lahn. Recent New York Times, Fox News, and Emerson College Polls all show Sand leading Lahn.
