The USMCA (United States–Mexico–Canada Agreement) is a free trade agreement between the United States, Mexico, and Canada. The agreement lasts for 16 years, with reviews every six years. With the July 1st renewal deadline drawing near Farmers for Free Trade held a roundtable at World Pork Expo last week to highlight the USMCA agreement and the benefits it offers for Iowa’s ag trade.

Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig was a speaker at the panel and opened by explaining the importance of the USMCA to Iowa’s ag trade.

Naig says that the USMCA is a vital tool that boosts Iowa’s economy.

Naig adds that in addition to the economic benefits of the trade agreement, the relationships that have been forged over the years have built trust between the trade partners.

Other speakers on the panel included Christopher Pudenz from the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation, CEO of the Agribusiness Association of Iowa Julie Kenney, Iowa Soybean Producer; Board Member, American Soybean Association, and U.S. Soybean Export Council Board Director Randy Miller, and Pat Hord, Pork Producer and President Elect of the National Pork Producers Council.
