County leaders passed a year-long moratorium 2-1 on data centers in Dubuque County at a special supervisors meeting. The original proposal said this would last about four months. During the moratorium, county staff will research and draft zoning regulations regarding data centers. Earlier this month, the Dubuque County Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended the board of supervisors put a halt on future data center plans until it can get more information. Organizations have considered buying land in Dubuque County to build a data center.

There’s now new money available to fight childhood cancers. A bill signed into law yesterday by Gov. Reynolds directs $3 million each year toward research and clinical trials at the University of Iowa. The bill comes after families like the Kaas family spent years pushing lawmakers to support more research funding. Their daughter Devyn was diagnosed with a type of bone marrow cancer when she was just seven months old. Now three years old, she’s been in remission for more than two years. Doctors say the funding could help expand research opportunities and bring more clinical trials to Iowa, reducing the need for families to travel out of state for treatment.
