WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – A woman is dead and a man is in jail following a welfare check on Saturday, April 4. At approximately 11:36 a.m., Waterloo Police Officers were dispatched to the 3900 Block of Butternut Lane for a welfare check. Upon arriving, officers found 50-year-old Stephanie Turner dead inside the residence. While investigating, Waterloo Police Detectives arrested 27-year-old Nicholas John Fettkether of Waterloo and charged him with second degree murder. He is currently being held in the Black Hawk County Jail. DUBUQUE COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – Dubuque County Sheriff’s Office, Epworth Fire/EMS, and Key West Fire crews responded to a house fire on Whitetop Road. Crews were dispatched to the fire at around 6:23 p.m. on Saturday, April 4. Crews were able to extinguish the fire, but the residence sustained around $400,000 in damage. No one was injured, and the cause of the fire does not appear to be suspicious.

MONTEZUMA, Iowa (KCRG) – Two people were found dead inside a sunken car in Poweshiek County Saturday morning. Around 9 a.m., the Poweshiek County Sheriff’s Office was called to a drainage pond north of Lake Silverado in rural Montezuma. A vehicle was underwater in the pond with two people inside. Both were pronounced dead. They have been taken to the Iowa State Medical Examiner’s Office. This is an ongoing investigation.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Rapids police arrested a 43-year-old man Friday in connection with a shooting that sent a victim to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest. Kenny Lee Rogers of Cedar Rapids was arrested April 3 on charges of attempted murder. An adult male was driven to a local hospital March 25 suffering from a single gunshot wound to the chest, according to police. The shooting took place in the 1700 block of A Avenue NE. The victim has since been released from the hospital. When taken into custody for the shooting incident, Rogers was found to have methamphetamine in his possession and lied to officers about his identity, police said. He was subsequently also charged with possession of controlled substance – methamphetamine and providing false information. Rogers was transported to the Linn County Jail and faces the following charges: attempted murder, going armed with intent, willful injury causing serious injury, use of dangerous weapon in the commission of a crime, persons ineligible to carry weapons, felon in possession of a firearm and violation of no contact order. Police are continuing the investigation.
