DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI/KCRG) – Greg Samorajski, the CEO of Iowa Public Employees’ Retirement System, has been placed on paid leave because of misconduct allegations, according to the governor’s office. The state said the investigation doesn’t pose a risk to the trust fund valued at more than $45 billion and won’t impact payments to its 400,000+ members. Samorajski was appointed by Governor Kim Reynolds in 2020. IPERS General Counsel Elizabeth Hennessey will serve as acting CEO in the meantime. State records show Samorajski is paid $261,000, which he will continue to receive while under investigation.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – One of the men arrested in connection to Melody Hoffman’s 2024 murder could have his probation revoked. Logan Kimpton pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit a forcible felony in November 2025 in connection to the Marion woman’s death. Two others, McKinley Louisma and Dakota Van Patten, were both convicted of murder and kidnapping charges and are currently serving life sentences. Kimpton was sentenced to a suspended 10-year prison sentence and three years probation, but that probation could be revoked at a hearing next month. According to court documents, Kimpton has tested positive for marijuana and meth, broke his curfew and didn’t show up to a residential correctional facility after being ordered to do so. He was arrested on March 26 while law enforcement was investigating an “unrelated criminal matter.” A probation revocation hearing is set for May 18.

MIDDLETOWN, Iowa (KCRG) – The Iowa Army Ammunition Plant shared Wednesday that it is securely storing explosive materials and is working with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency to manage the material. The southeast Iowa plant reopened Monday. It had paused operations since March 12 to conduct a safety review and find a safe storage option for lead azide. The chemical is used in munitions production. IAAAP says it’s stored in earth-covered, explosion-proof magazines to mitigate any potential risk. IAAAP said the material is no longer used in production, so it’s reclassified as hazardous waste. To comply with federal regulations, IAAAP filed an emergency Resource Conservation and Recovery Act permit with the EPA to manage the material.
