Meet the Candidates
Friday, March 13 was the deadline by which Republicans and Democrats had to file nomination papers with the Iowa Secretary of State in order to be on the ballot in the June 2nd primary election. That deadline was for federal offices like Congress, statewide offices, and the state legislature.
Over the ensuing few days, the nomination papers and accompanying signatures were reviewed and accepted…or in one high-profile situation, rejected. We now know who will be facing off in the partisan primary in June.
So we figured it was time for you to meet all the candidates individually.
News/Talk 1540 KXEL and Studio 5 at Mudd Advertising are teaming up for a special series of “Iowa Talking Points” programs—”Iowa Talking Points: The Candidates” will feature one-on-one interviews I’ll conduct with each of the candidates. We’ll air them here on KXEL, and video versions will be available on KXEL’s social media, and at iowatalkingpoints.com.
Today, we’ve invited those with contested congressional races in eastern Iowa, as well as contested statewide races, to participate. We’ll start recording them right away, and you’ll hear them in April and May. This includes both the Democrat and Republican races for first and second district Congress and U.S. Senate, and the Republican races for Governor and Auditor. That’s 20 different candidates; we hope they all accept, but we’re happy to sit down with whoever takes us up on the offer.
As we know when we’re recording with which candidate…we’ll invite you to suggest questions via text and email.
And if this special series goes well…we’ll do the same thing for the general election…both in the TV studio for “Iowa Talking Points” and at the “KXEL Candidate Cattle Call” at the National Cattle Congress Fair.
They want your vote…now it’s time for them to tell you why. Stay tuned for “Iowa Talking Points: The Candidates” coming soon.
