What Time Is It?

Here it is Tuesday, and I may have finally gotten all the clocks at home and at the radio station switched to daylight saving time.

Not the clock in my car, of course…but that’s another story for another day.

I don’t have the same passion about the issue as some people…but those people certainly have an opinion.

On one side are those who believe we should keep the clocks on standard time throughout the year. On another side are those who believe we should be on daylight saving time all year—which would be the new standard time. There are those who like things the way they are and don’t want to change the current habit.

This is actually under the purview of Congress…not that that gives you any confidence. As Fox News congressional correspondent Chad Pergram notes, the Constitution gives Congress the power to regulate weights and measures…and how we deal with the clock is a measurement of time.

Bills have therefore been introduced on both sides…standard time all year, daylight saving time all year…and Florida Congressman Greg Stuebe has even introduced a bill to split the difference…the same time year-round, but a half hour change instead of a full hour. There are some nations in the Middle East and Asian regions that have done something similar…if it’s the top of the hour here, it’s the bottom of the hour there. Imagine how much fun that would be to figure out.

Other than being a bit tired and out of sorts for a day or two, I’m not sure we suffer that much from losing an hour of sleep in the spring. That’s what naps are for, after all…and if this is the worst thing we have to complain about, seems we’re pretty blessed after all.
