SIOUX CITY (KTIV/KCRG) – Hundreds of soldiers in the Iowa National Guard from Siouxland have spent the last ten months deployed in the Middle East. Now, they’re on their way back home. Welcome home ceremonies are in the works, but some of those soldiers are already in the process of flying back from overseas bases now under fire from Iran. Members of the Army National Guard’s 113th squadron from Sioux City and Le Mars arrived in Bangor, Maine, on board one of the New England Patriots’ two team planes. As they arrived at the airport, the Maine Troop Greeters were there to offer a welcome. The Patriots often loan out their planes for other purposes besides flying the team to games. The soldiers added that the community they come from is very appreciative of the military, so seeing the Troop Greeters at the airport made them feel like they were home. The plane was only in Bangor for a few hours before heading out once again. Details on when the soldiers will be back in Iowa have not been released yet. The Iowa National Guard says some soldiers will return earlier as their specific missions conclude, while others remain deployed to continue essential responsibilities such as partner support and base security. Welcoming ceremonies are set to be held in Sioux City, Cedar Rapids and Des Moines.
