Good-for-You Snacks
We have a lot of important issues in the world today…so many that it’s hard to know which to discuss.
So let’s talk about Doritos Protein snacks.
As USA TODAY noted, what’s the latest way to add protein to your diet? Apparently, Doritos.
New Doritos Protein snacks are coming to store shelves in March, in nacho cheese and sweet-and-tangy-BBQ flavors. Essentially, it’s a Doritos chip but loaded with protein.
A one-ounce serving of Doritos Protein has 10 grams of protein, while the traditional Nacho Cheese Doritos has 2 grams of protein per serving. Apparently the caloric and fat levels are the same, but there is also less sodium in the new chip, along with more protein.
The new offering uses milk protein—casein—as the protein source. It’s also made without artificial colors or flavors.
The company’s chief marketing officer told USA TODAY that consumers want more from their snacks these days…they don’t want to choose between great taste and functional benefits.
For some of us, though, it’s portion control. They claim a serving size is 10 chips. Not sure in what universal that is reality. Then again, as noted before, these are the folks who make “party size” bags that presume a very, very small party.
And this is apparently not the end of all this. Doritos says later this year, a single-serving size option will be available, with 17 grams of protein per bag.
I think I’ll wait for the “ribeye steak, medium well” flavor of Doritos. Then again, if I want protein…I’ll just go for the steak.
