President Trump touted his economic plan and saluted new investments by Deere and Company during an address yesterday in Clive. The President has been travelling to battleground states to talk about tariffs and the economy in a tour the White House says will continue until the November midterm elections. During his Iowa address, the President highlighted Deere’s plans to build a multi-million dollar excavation manufacturing plant in North Carolina. Deere first announced plans to expand its Kernersville plant to produce excavators in 2024.

The President also told his Iowa audience that he supports the year-round sale of E-15 gasoline. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says this action will allow up to 2 billion more bushels of corn to be consumed domestically. She said American ethanol exports are up 11% in the last year alone.

A vigil in Dubuque last night was a public stance against ICE actions. It occurred in Washington Park. The group Indivisible Dubuque County organized the event. It said it’s in response to the shooting death of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis on Saturday.

Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird filed an objection to a federal judge’s order restricting ICE agents’ tactics. She joined 20 other Attorneys General in filing a brief opposing an order that found ICE likely violated Minnesotans’ Constitutional rights. That order stopped agents from using tactics like pepper-spraying non-violent observers. A federal court has since paused that order without an explanation, allowing ICE to continue its operation. Bird’s brief criticized what she called “not-mostly peaceful protesting” and argued protesters are taking aggressive tactics to interfere with law enforcement.

Crews from several Johnson County Emergency Agencies responded to a large home fire yesterday. North Liberty Fire Chief Brian Platz says crews needed to also battle temperatures as low as 12 degrees with wind chills below zero. No one was hurt. Investigators are still trying to discover how this fire got started.
