CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (KCRG) – Cedar Falls Public Safety Officers responded to a report of a deceased person on Saturday. Safety Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1900 block of Four Winds Drive, where a man was found dead in the residence. His identity has not been released pending notification of family members. The incident is still under investigation, and there is no known threat to the public.

DAVENPORT, Iowa (KCRG) – A Waterloo man was sentenced to federal prison for attempted enticement of a minor. 47-year-old Gabriel Usher, of Waterloo, was sentenced for attempted enticement of a minor to engage in illegal sexual activities on Friday. He communicated online with an undercover officer posing as a 15-year-old in October 2023, according to court documents. Police say he confessed his affection for the minor within days and suggested they engage in sexual acts. After Usher’s arrival at the location of a prearranged meeting with the minor, his phone was seized by law enforcement. In October 2024, he was sentenced to five years in state prison in Black Hawk County for unrelated state charges, including enticing a minor under 16 and sexual exploitation. Usher was sentenced to 14 years in prison and will also serve a ten-year supervised release. He must register as a sex offender.

JOHNSON COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – Two men were sentenced to probation after attacking a person in downtown Iowa City. 22-year-old Ryan Maschmann and 21-year-old Landan Provino, both of Wayland, were arrested in December 2024 after attacking a person in downtown Iowa City. Court documents state that three men followed and attacked the victim after a fight. The assault happened in the 200 block of East College Street on Dec. 14, 2024. Maschmann and two other men grabbed the individual from behind and pinned their arms back as they punched, kicked, and stomped on the victim, even after they were unconscious. Maschmann pleaded guilty to willful injury and participation in a riot in March. On June 19, Maschmann was sentenced to five years of probation. Provino was sentenced to five years of probation on Thursday.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The Manager of Cedar Rapids Animal Care and Control (CRACC) is no longer employed by the City of Cedar Rapids. This information, shared by the City of Cedar Rapids Human Resources Department, comes following two failed state inspections at the shelter. TV9 first reported problems at CRACC in June, after the shelter was forced to close its doors several times due to staffing shortages. City employees stepped up to help with the shortages, and the city hired three new staffers to help at the Center. However, on Friday, the City of Cedar Rapids confirmed the manager is no longer employed, as well as two additional employees. One of the employees resigned last week. The other employee submitted a prior resignation, and just left recently. No further information was provided regarding the departures due to confidentiality matters.
