CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – One person was left injured after a vehicle collision on Sunday morning. Shortly after 10 a.m., Linn County Sheriff Deputies, Linn County Rescue 57, Iowa State Patrol, Marion Fire Department, and Area Ambulance responded to a call of an accident with injuries on Highway 13 and County Home Road in rural Marion. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found a white Dodge cargo van with significant damage to the front end and a blue Ford Escape with significant side damage. Investigation of the crash revealed that the Dodge cargo van failed to stop at a stop sign on Highway 13 northbound at County Home Road and struck the Ford Escape as it was driving eastbound on County Home Road. The driver of the Dodge cargo van was charged with failure to obey a traffic control device and was uninjured. The driver of the Ford Escape was taken to a local hospital by family members with minor injuries.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – Everyone was able to escape a house fire early Sunday morning thanks to working smoke detectors. The Cedar Rapids Fire Department was dispatched for a call of a house fire in the 1300 block of C Street SW around 1:20 a.m. Sunday morning. Upon arrival, fire crews found a single-family home with smoke visible. Firefighters were able to get the fire under control quickly. The fire department says the two adults inside the house had been alerted to the fire by their working smoke detectors and were able to escape before fire crews arrived. Three cats and one dog were safely removed from the house as well. The house sustained moderate fire, smoke, and water damage in the basement. Medical treatment was not needed. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

TAMA, Iowa (KCRG) – One person is dead after a welfare check ended in an officer-involved shooting early Saturday morning. Tama Police say Tama County 911 received two separate requests for a welfare check on a male. One reporter said the man wanted to harm himself; the second reporter said the man had a gun. Those calls came in just after 1 a.m. Police found the man with a gun just after 1:30 a.m. in the 800 block of W. 13th St. That’s where an officer shot the man. First aid was given, and the man was taken to an area emergency room, where he was pronounced dead. The name of the man killed is not being released at this time as officers notify the family. The name of the officer involved is also not being released at this time, but has been placed on critical incident leave. Police say there is no threat to the public and no other information is available at this time. Iowa DCI will be assisting in the investigation.

DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) – One person is hurt, and another is in custody after a shooting in Des Moines Saturday evening. It happened near Ohio Street and University Avenue in the River Bend Neighborhood. Des Moines Police say officers heard reports of gunshots just before 9 p.m. They say a potential suspect was detained within minutes. One person was taken to a local hospital with injuries. Police say this incident is related to a hit-and-run crash investigation that happened at 2nd Avenue and Hull Avenue. Des Moines police are continuing to investigate.
