Impressionable Children
The woke cancel culture mob has turned its attention on beloved images from our youth.
Dr. Seuss books have gotten a lot of attention of late…then came the unisex Potato Head…now it’s Looney Toons’ turn.  Yosemite Sam is too violent. Speedy Gonzalez portrays racial stereotypes. And of course, Pepe Le Pew, who–depending on your view–is either guilty of animal cruelty, sexual harassment or assault, or being a bad role model for boys regarding dating behavior.
Apparently, the fact that Pepe is French is alright.
Viewed through the lens of 2021, and not 1951, for example…some of the images may strike us differently today. But is the properly response to simply banish it for all time?
It occurred to me that the very people who are shouting the loudest are the ones who literally grew up with Dr. Seuss…Mr. Potato Head…even Pepe Le Pew. And they’d probably say they turned out okay.
So…help me again understand why we need to ban this speech or expression to help save the next generation?
