Women in the Workforce
Estimates show that a majority of the net job losses due to COVID-19, 55 percent, were experienced by women. A new survey by the personal finance website WalletHub shows that Iowa is the sixth best state in the country for women in the workforce.
More than two dozen key metrics, ranging from media earnings to preventive health care, were used in coming up with the rankings.
Iowa is the 7th best state in the nation for unemployment rate for women, as well as female uninsured rate. Our state is fifth best in terms of high school graduation rate for women.
As adjusted for cost of living, Iowa ranks 9th best in median earnings for female workers.
We’re 18th best in terms of share of women in poverty, and 19th best in share of women who voted in the 2016 presidential election.
And Iowa ranks 16th for women’s preventive health care, 17th best in women’s life expectancy at birth, and 18th best in overall quality of women’s hospitals.
