Back On The Road
It was one year ago this week that we did our last live broadcast on location before the pandemic shut everything down. It was at the Hawkeye Farm Show at the UNI-Dome.
So it’s only appropriate that we go back there this week, for our first broadcast on location since COVID started. I’ll be doing my KXEL Live & Local program each morning, Tuesday through Thursday, from the Hawkeye Farm Show, and I hope you’ll stop by the show some time this week.
You probably appreciate that doing these remote broadcasts…whether from the UNI-Dome or the “golden dome” of the State Capitol building…takes a lot of effort. Granted, it’s a lot less complicated today than it was when I started 40 years ago, but it’s still far easier to sit in a studio. Equipment, extra staffing, long work days when we’re on the road, etc.
But regardless, it’s about darn time we got back to something resembling normal.
We even went back to a certain restaurant over the weekend, for the first time in literally a year. What a great option, to feel comfortable going out in public as opposed to hunkering down at home.
With the rebirth that comes with spring this year, then, the rebirth of all of us. It’s no time to be stupid, mind you; don’t engage in risky behavior, don’t presume a thin little mask is going to do much good. But it’s time to get back to normal, right now…for our economy, for our families, for ourselves.
I’ve said before that COVID has truly not impacted my life very much, and for that I’m thankful. I can only imagine how bad some of this has been for some folks. But we’re ready, as a people, to responsibly get back at it.
Let’s take this first day of a new month, the month a year ago that brought so much disruption, and make it the affirmative start of the rebirth that has to happen in 2021.
