If One Is Good, Two Must Be Better
You’ve heard that phrase before…but we can easily find exceptions. Snowfall, for example…more is not always better. One more piece of pizza…sure, at the time it seems like a good idea, but maybe not later.
The key point is knowing the right amount, when quantifying anything. Is overpaying a football player worth it if the means the team goes to the Super Bowl? Perhaps.
How about masks? Some of us think “zero” is the correct number, but now comes the debate about one mask, or two. Well, if two are better than one, how about three? Or five? There’s no evidence of what the correct amount is…wearing one good mask correctly probably is better than wearing two masks haphazardly…but I don’t know.
What about a minimum wage? It’s now at $7.25 an hour. Some want it to be $15. Why? Well, it’s more than $10. But if $15 is good, why not $20? After all, we’re already committing to crippling the economy and artificially affecting the capitalistic balance, so why not go all in?
How about federal debt-based stimulus? It’s only another couple of trillion dollars. Go big or go home, after all.
This game of poker, where players see you and raise you just to make themselves feel good, doesn’t work if you don’t have the cards…in this case, a good reason for it.
Here’s a final phrase…less is more.
