Don’t Worry, Be Happy
Being happy is really an individual thing, based predominantly on attitude. It’s very hard to quantify, but the folks at the personal finance website WalletHub have tried, and according to them, Iowa is the 8th happiest state in America.
To determine where Americans have the highest satisfaction with life, WalletHub compared the 50 states across 32 key indicators of happiness, including the depression rate and the positive COVID-19 test rate, to income growth and the unemployment rate.
Overall, Iowa ranks 14th in terms of the percentage of depressed adults…and 25th in terms of suicide rate.
Our long-term unemployment rate is stellar…we’re third in the nation in terms of lowest rate…but it appears we work a lot to maintain that, 27th in the number of hours worked each week.
We’re 12th in the nation in getting adequate sleep…and fourth highest in the rate of those who volunteer. They always say you get more when you give back.
Our low rate of separation and divorce is 8th best, and we are the sixth safest state…those two are probably not connected. And we’re fourth best in terms of fewest coronavirus restrictions.
So if your day is not going well, just remember…there are 42 other states where you’d be even less happy, than here.
