Thanks, But No Thanks
Former presidential candidate Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar says she called presumptive Democrat nominee Joe Biden last Thursday night and told him she was withdrawing from consideration as his running mate, and that he should name a woman of color to the national ticket.
She told the media that in an interview the following day…just as word was increasing that Biden was leaning toward another former candidate, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren.
Klobuchar early on seemed to have one of the inside tracks. She’s a generation younger than Biden, obviously is a female which he said was required, and had experience as a prosecutor and a senator.
But once Biden stumbled with the infamous “you ain’t black” comment, he stock started to fall as it looked like he’d need to name a woman of color to make up for that…you could cross her off the list totally once George Floyd died while in police custody in her home state…and you could cement that once people started looking into her record as a prosecutor and possible problems in cases involving people of color.
You often hear of finalists for a job start to withdraw when it becomes clear they aren’t going to be the choice; better to quit than to have someone reject you.
And as the Biden campaign continues to stumble trying to find a comfortable stride, it might be best for her political future to stay back and hope the climate is better in four years.
