Cold air blasts across the state

By Riley Smith Nov 21, 2024 | 4:40 PM

After some warmer temperatures, a blast of cold wind hit the state. It seems that the switch to winter may be upon us already, as those cold temperatures are projected to stick around for a while. Fortunately, it looks like the precipitation will stick around as well. Justin Glisan, state climatologist for Iowa, said the Iowa drought monitor has seen some improvement.

While we did see a little bit of snow yesterday, there has not been any widespread snow across the state yet.

Glisan said the cold temperatures will be sticking around for a while, so if you’ve been waiting to bring out the winter jacket, now is probably the time.

The cold air likely won’t be enough to freeze the soil any time soon, however, so any moisture we receive will still be able to absorb into the ground.
