Food insecurity continues to be a problem across the state of Iowa, which means that many Iowans- some of whom might even be your neighbors- don’t have the proper access to nutritious food. As the top ag state in the country, Iowa is naturally poised to be able to combat this issue. Today, the Iowa Farm Bureau and Fareway made their third annual “Meat the Need” donation to the Food Bank of Iowa, with this year’s donation clocking in at over 27,000 pounds of protein. Food Bank of Iowa CEO Michelle Book said meat donations are especially important for them to receive.

Book said the fight against food insecurity is a statewide effort that goes all the way down to the community level.

Iowa Farm Bureau President Brent Johnson said this donation is very timely, as the holidays are quickly approaching.

Fareway President Garrett Piklapp said they’ve enjoyed this partnership with the Iowa Farm Bureau, and they hope to continue it in the future and help even more people.
