Bright Lights, Big City
Conventional wisdom says there are seven key states in the November 5 general election, and that the presidential candidates need to focus on those states.
But Donald Trump has never been a conventional candidate, which explains why he just did an event in deep blue California and is planning an event at Madison Square Garden in deep blue New York.
At first blush, there’s a sense of “why waste the time?”  That certainly was my reaction.
But in this age of multiple TV channels covering every Trump rally, there may well be benefit from those blue-state-stages.
For those who feel big blue cities are part of the problem, seeing Trump as their champion not be afraid to plant a MAGA flag into the ground everywhere works to solidify the base and enhance turnout. And showing America what has happened to our once-great cities in the hands of decades of Democrats may help to make the point even further.
No, no one is undecided about their choice. But how committed are they to cast a ballot and bring a friend? If there’s a more famous venue than Madison Square Garden for an arena, I don’t know it. And that fits the Trump persona.
Alright, maybe Yankee Stadium, but it’s outdoors, and besides…my guys are going to be winning the World Series at the time.
But back to the point…yes, there is great benefit to have the candidate on the ground in your state. But given the saturation of media, folks will see what they need to see, regardless of the originating zip code.
