Congressional Betting

Tomorrow is the annual Congressional Baseball Game, an annual bi-partisan event started in 1909 where members of Congress compete on the diamond. That’s 115 years of history.

The GOP has won three straight contests, including last year’s 16-6 win…but since the game was moved to Nationals Park, the home of major league baseball’s Washington Nationals, Democrats have outpaced Republicans 10-5.

As you might imagine, the folks at BetOnline.ag place odds on just about anything, including political outcomes. You therefore will not be surprised that they’ve provided some betting options for tomorrow night’s game.

You can wager on how many runs will be scored, who will win, how many players will be hit by a pitch…and even if there will be a bench-clearing brawl.

No word on wagers for which presidential mascot will win the nightly race around the park.

BetOnline.ag says there is a 4 percent chance of someone hitting a home run…that means 25 to 1 odds. Team Democrat is at last check a 6 to 5 favorite to win the game, despite that three-game losing streak. The over/under for total runs is 20.5.  The over/under for number of Democrats to be hit by a pitch is 1.5, while the number for Republicans plunked by a pitch is 1.

And make of this what you will, but the odds of throwing the first punch in a bench-clearing brawl show Democrats at 2 to 1.

If only some of them were as dedicated to actually passing a farm bill as they are at baseball.
