MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa (KCRG) – On Friday, March 8, 2024, the Marshall County Communications Center received a report of a stabbing incident on a party bus on U.S. Highway 30 in Marshalltown, Iowa. Officials say the bus was carrying adults returning from a business event in Des Moines. 41-year-old James Morgan of Cedar Rapids was taken to Unity Point Health-Marshalltown Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Law enforcement officers located Jesse Davis, 32, also from Cedar Rapids, at the hospital. Davis was taken into custody without resistance and faces charges of Assault with Willful Injury and Going Armed with Intent. Preliminary investigations suggest the incident was an isolated altercation between Davis and Morgan, who were acquaintances with a prior disagreement. The case remains under investigation by the Marshall County Sheriff’s Office.

MARION, Iowa (KCRG) – We now know the name of the man killed in a crash late Friday night in Marion. Officials say 26-year-old Demontrae Poole of Marion was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The crash happened just after 11:30 p.m. near the intersection of East Post Road and Hickory Wind Lane. Police say Poole lost control and hit a utility pole, sending the vehicle into the air and hitting a detached garage before landing in a yard. The other occupant, a Cedar Rapids woman, was taken to a local hospital for life threatening injuries. The accident remains under investigation.

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – On March 7, 2024, officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Sumner Street for a report of a house fire. Investigators say that someone set fire to a vehicle and the backside of the residence. Ten people were inside the house at approximately 5:13 p.m. when the arson was reported. No one was injured. Waterloo police fficials are asking anyone with information or video in the area at the time of the arson to send it to them through either their website or the Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers website.

A new poll finds a strong majority of Iowans support giving teachers the right to carry firearms on school grounds. The new Iowa Poll from The Des Moines Register found 60% of those surveyed supported the idea while only 38% oppose it. The new numbers come as lawmakers are trying to advance a bill that would provide immunity from liability for teachers and districts. The proposal comes after a number of districts in Iowa recently tried to allow teachers to carry but were forced to cancel plans when their insurance provider threatened to revoke their coverage over such a policy. The bill would also require the state’s largest districts to hire either private security or resource officers. The provision would impact 11 districts in Iowa, including Cedar Rapids, Iowa City, Waterloo, and Dubuque. The House version of the bill would provide $3 million dollars to schools to purchase infrastructure for the new requirements, including guns for teachers.
