ANKENY, Iowa (KCRG) -Ankeny police say a bomb threat caused an evacuation during a state high school speech competition on Saturday. It was found to be not credible. It happened at Ankeny Centennial High School. Police say someone used the Apple Airdrop feature to send out a threatening message, insinuating a bomb was in the school. Investigators swept the building, searching for the alleged threat. Later that evening, police say they were able to determine who was involved, spoke to them about this threat, and determined it was not credible. Those at the school say while the threats weren’t real, the fear was. Police say they have not made an arrest related to the threat so far, but the situation is still under investigation.

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A rodent was responsible for damage to ImOn’s fiber line on Saturday, prompting them to repair their lines. Officials say that the damage was caused by a rodent and that “This small section of fiber that the rodent chose to chew feeds many of our Cedar Rapids neighborhoods.” ImOn estimated repairs would take a few hours, and indicated that as of 9 p.m. Saturday, all services had been restored.

SAC CITY, Iowa (KCCI/KCRG) – It’s been over two months since 53-year-old David Shultz’s friends and family have seen him. The reward for any information about his disappearance has increased to $25,000. Previously, the reward was $2,000. The extra money for the reward is thanks to Sac County’s American Rescue Plan, which is funded by the federal government. The reward increase was requested by county leaders. David Schultz hasn’t been seen since November 20, 2023. He went missing while delivering hogs to Sac City. Volunteers have searched more than 100,000 acres for David. David’s phone, wallet, and semi-truck were all found at a rural intersection north of Sac City. The latest $25,000 reward will expire in November. Schultz’s parents are hoping that the reward is high enough that someone with information will come forward. If you have any information on Schultz’s whereabouts, you’re asked to contact the Sac County Sheriff’s Office.

WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – VGM Group in Waterloo opened its childcare center for employees in November, after hearing from staff members with children that full-time care was hard to come by in the area. Access to childcare is an issue across the state. Governor Kim Reynolds pushed for several investments into opening new childcare spots in 2021, when she said that 23% of Iowans, including 35% of rural Iowans, lived in areas lacking adequate childcare supply, and that annually, the childcare shortage costs Iowa’s economy approximately $935 million. The company used a $1.3 million state grant to repurpose rooms left empty after the COVID-19 pandemic, and partners with a local child development center to staff the daycare. Right now, the center serves 40 children, but it has room for growth with a capacity of 99.
