WATERLOO, Iowa (KCRG) – Drivers in Waterloo now have a faster, more convenient way to handle minor crashes without waiting for an officer to arrive. The Waterloo Police Department and Black Hawk Consolidated Communications Center have launched a new digital Driver Exchange tool for non‑injury crashes. The system is designed to help drivers safely and accurately exchange information at the scene while freeing up officers to focus on emergency calls. Here’s how it works: If you’re involved in a minor crash with no reported injuries, the dispatch center or police department can send you a secure Driver Exchange link via text message. When you open the link, you’ll be guided through a simple, step‑by‑step process that walks you through exactly what information to provide for an insurance claim. The tool collects all the details typically needed after a crash, such as driver and vehicle information. When everyone involved has completed their part, the system automatically sends the completed exchange to each party by email or text. To retrieve your exchange after a crash, you can visit crashdocs.org at any time. You’ll just need your reference number, last name, and the date of the accident to securely access and download your documentation.
