BLACK HAWK COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – A motorcyclist who died in a crash in Black Hawk County on Sunday has been identified. Iowa State Patrol reports the victim has been identified as Jeffrey Millen of Cedar Falls. Officials say Millen was traveling north on Highway 218 around 9:20 p.m. on Sunday evening when he crashed into the back of another vehicle. No other injuries were reported.
DES MOINES, Iowa (KCRG) – Libertarian candidate for Iowa’s Third Congressional District, Marco Battaglia, who had been removed from the November ballot due to having a different legal name, has announced he is ending his candidacy due to a medical emergency. The Libertarian Party of Iowa Chair Stephanie Berlin issued a statement regarding the announcement. Berlin said, “Our thoughts are with Marco and his family as they focus on his health and recovery. Out of respect for Marco’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details. Right now, our focus is on supporting Marco while ensuring the party fulfills its responsibilities under Iowa law and continues to provide voters with a Libertarian choice on the ballot this November.” A state objection panel ruled that Battaglia was ineligible to be on the November ballot because his legal name is Mark Anderson.
CEDAR COUNTY, Iowa (KCRG) – One person has died following a two-vehicle crash in Cedar County on Monday. Iowa State Patrol reports the crash happened at 1927 Highway 38 near Tipton around 11:07 a.m. Officials say a vehicle pulling a trailer was backing up across a roadway into a private drive when another vehicle collided with the left side of the trailer. One person died as a result of the crash. The crash remains under investigation and no other information is available at this time.
CORALVILLE, Iowa (KCRG) – Human remains discovered in Coralville in early July have been identified as a man reported missing since 2023, according to the Johnson County Medical Examiner’s Office. Using dental records, the medical examiner’s office were able to identify the remains as Grant Leonard, a man reported missing in Coralville since October 2023. Coralville Police shared their findings in a statement on Monday. Police said, “While we are grateful to be able to provide Grant’s family with answers, this is not the outcome anyone had hoped for. We respectfully ask the community and members of the media to provide Grant’s family with privacy and compassion as they process this tragic news.” The investigation is ongoing and no other information has been made available at this time.
